Teaching Artist: George Apotsos

Transform your canvas into a captivating story that inspires viewers to engage within the artwork by interpreting the unfolding story among the painted scene. Students will learn how to choose and translate personal life experiences as well as shared memories, vivid dreams and pure fantasy into compelling visual narratives by implementing painting techniques that convey emotions, craft atmospheric settings and breathe life into the central characters. This hands-on course emphasis on composition will teach how to weave symbolism, iconography and images into your composition that guides the viewer through the story. Building essential painting skills using acrylics as your primary medium will be demonstrated. We'll also explore mixed-media possibilities through collage and photo montage, giving you even more tools to bring your stories to life. Perfect for both beginning and intermediate artists. Unlock and discover the storyteller within! Supplementary art materials will be on-hand but the majority of art supplies are the responsibility of the student. Materials will be discussed in class and a supply list will be provided.   ***No class May 26

Please note that this class may be held on the second floor of the building, and there is no elevator access. Participants must be able to climb one flight of stairs.

Here is a link for details regarding AOY Terms & Conditions. Online payment at time of registration is preferred. Please note, if you choose to use the "payment by check" option, that checks are accepted only during the first 4 weeks of registration and the check payment option expires two weeks prior to the start of each class. Checks must be received two weeks prior to the start date for completion of registration in order to be added to the class roster. Registrations will be cancelled if payments are not received prior to these deadlines.
