This online Zoom class, recommended for teens and adults, is geared for people who have never knitted before. They will learn the very basics, such as the knit and purl stitch, garter vs stockinette stitch, increasing and decreasing, changing color and casting on and binding off. Students will come out of the class with a striped scarf and a ribbed hat, as well as how to read patterns and seam up their knitting. In addition, we will have discussions about online resources and fiber communities like ravelry.com. They will also get an overview of different kinds of yarn (different weight, different fiber content) and different kinds of needles (straight vs circular, bamboo vs metal, etc.). Two hours a week for six weeks offers adequate time to cover content and to allow plenty of practice and assistance. For people who catch on quickly, knitting in the round, lace, color-work and cable techniques can also be explored.
A ZOOM account is required to attend class virtually.
