Painting en Plein Air - Beginner to Intermediate
There is no need to have ever painted en plein air before, but a basic knowledge of oil painting is recommended.
The fastest way to improve your painting (especially landscape painting) is to paint “en plein air” (in the open air). The richness of color and light our eyes see cannot be captured by a camera and there’s no substitute for the knowledge and experience you will gain! This class will explore the many possibilities of painting outdoors. In addition to oil painting in general, we will discuss kinds of equipment, the supplies needed for painting in the great outdoors, time saving tips, ways to capture the mood and “sense of place” and the pitfalls and rewards of plein air. A supply list will be provided.

This class will be playful and informative. We will seek to help you express your individuality with an abstract approach. There will be demonstrations, exercises and critiques. We will learn to add depth through layering and adding paint to paper or paper to paint. We'll consider using papers and a wide variety of different materials to bring texture into our work. We want to help you to loosen up in this style and in other more formal styles that you may pursue.

    Teaching Artist: Anne Gannon

With individual guidance and instruction, learn how to refine your personal style while sharpening your painting skills. Various aspects of technique, color mixing and application are covered depending on what is needed to rework an old painting or start something new. Students use their own photos or an iPad for reference. A Still Life can be set up in class too. Oils, acrylics, pastels, charcoal, graphite or ink... the instructor can help in any medium. A class like this keeps all students inspired as they learn from each other! At the end of class everyone participates in a positive, constructive critique of the works done that day. This is for students with intermediate through advanced painting skills.
