Teaching Artist: Dorothy Hoeschen
Alla Prima means "at first attempt" and is sometimes called wet-in-wet (though it's not exactly the same). It is an exciting way of working that goes quickly, with the goal of being able to finish the painting in one sitting. This is one reason it is so perfect if you want to work "en plein air" (outdoors). Light and weather can change quickly and if you are painting outdoors it is definitely an advantage if you can finish a painting in 2-3 hours. This class will be a great primer as I will be teaching Plein Air painting (outdoors) for the next Spring II Session. In this SP I class, we will be working in a studio situation (a controlled environment) using your own reference images and enjoying the freshness and spontaneity that is always part of Alla Prima painting. Some basic knowledge of painting and color is a plus and a supply list will be provided. This class is not suited for beginners or first time painters.
