#34 Drawing & Portrait Painting Workshop! (3-day camp)

A self-portrait is a powerful form of self expression. In this camp, we will be studying the paintings of famed Mexican artist Frida Kahlo and apply her visionary techniques to our own paintings. The camp will begin with an academic study of face proportions and draw-from-life a plaster cast of a human skull. Afterwards the students will begin drawing their self-portraits with pencil and charcoal using a table mirror. Then we will begin to transfer the drawings onto canvas using graphs, photo stenciling and carbon copy transfers. Next, we will talk about symbols and images that will be nice to include in the painting. Along the way we’ll play games and word association exercises to help free up the imagination. All materials included.
