#67 The Art of Craftsmanship Workshop!
Teaching Artist - Elizabeth Taraba
Week 6, 1 pm - 4 pm
Ages 12 - 16
$225*

Artists have created useful objects for thousands of years. We will explore the use of leather, wood, clay and fibers to create our own beautiful objects. Using leather, we will craft a belt pouch or wallet, learning to measure, cut, prepare and sew the pieces. Using wood we will learn to measure, cut, sand, glue and finish a wooden toy that moves!
Painting our toys to help them last will make them our own original creations. Students will learn to create a plaster mold from which clay impressions can be taken, making multiple original clay pieces from one design. We will also learn to create a fiber design using yarn/floss and punch needles to embellish any fabric article with beautiful bright colored designs and patterns.
All of these craft forms can be practiced for a lifetime to develop a deep love and understanding of the materials and methods. All material fees are included.

*plus $4 processing fee

"You learn a lot about a community by how much it embraces, elevates and provides access to the arts. AOY Art Center, a nonprofit artistic hub on Mirror Lake Road, provides countless opportunities for residents to embrace their artistic side as a vehicle for growth, creativity, and profound joy. Through adult classes, youth programs, and public events, AOY Art Center uses the arts to not only inspire community members but also connect them to one another."
